Modern Classes

At Graham School of Dance & Theatre Arts, we are proud to follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing syllabus. Please note for strength and technique, to take Modern classes children must also take Ballet.

  • Early Years Modern Classes

    Pre-Primary to Primary
Your little one can begin learning Modern Theatre Dance from the age of 4 when they enter Pre-Primary level. Modern dance is a free and imaginative style of dance, and after Ballet, is our second most popular subject.
Children have the opportunity to take their first Modern exam of Primary Modern in Year 1 or 2, a fun exam led by their teacher on the day.

  • Graded Modern Classes

    Grade 1 to 6
Grade 1 Modern classes can begin to be taken in Year 2, and work their way up to Grade 6 on the ISTD Modern Theatre syllabus. Students will learn many different genres of Modern dance throughout each grade, and begin to learn skills such as improvisation and unset work in the higher grades.

  • Vocational Modern Classes

    Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2
Our vocational modern classes allow students to achieve the highest possible grades with the ISTD syllabus. These classes work to a higher technical, artistic and strength level in Modern Theatre.
